Early to rise, but loll about as we enjoy coffee and pan(bread) on our terrace. We selected a number of wonderful breads at the mercado yesterday and have laid in some of the local coffee.

About 11 am, we get a cab to Zicatela Beach, hoping to see some surfing, which we do. But we are sad that there are no big pipelines today, for which Zicatela is famous.

Anybody for a Pony Ride?

We tramp about on the beach a bit, and then pick a nice spot for a sit-down. One of the many money-making schemes here is the rental of chairs and umbrellas on the beach. We pay for three chaise loungers under a palapa. It’s $7.50 for the whole day, if we want. We set for a few hours in numb pleasure. Sara walks the beach, but she’s starting to relax. Mitch and I spend at least 20 minutes watching a crab walk to the surf. The people who have sat next to us are amusing us with their particular family dysfunction and if I weren’t starting to get hungry, I would probably still be sitting there.

Eventually, we get hungry enough to move and walk up the beach road. It is very, very hot in the sun. I lurch from shade tree to shade tree. We find a likely lunch spot further along the beach. We eat everything in sight. Fresh salt air always makes me ravenous.

We take a cab home from the Santa Fe and I loll about reading for the rest of the afternoon as Sara and Mitch head for the beach again. I'm reading that damn Dan Brown Angels and Demons book that I can't put down and I don't even like.

When they return, and have cleaned up, we head for the Adoquin, where we make our reservation for some nature tours later in the week and then we enjoy a great dinner at Las Crostas. I have an enormous grilled tuna for $6.50. After that and a couple of margaritas, I’m ready for bed.
